Apple skriver på sin utvecklingsblogg att man inte längre stödjer appar till iOS 2.x eller iPhone OS 2.x som det tidigare hette.

Make sure that your applications are compatible with iOS 4. All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. In addition, the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 2.x.

Nya appar och uppdateringar måste dessutom byggas med iPhone SDK 4. De behöver dock inte skrivas exklusivt för iOS 4 utan de kan byggas för iOS 3 också, bara de är kompatibla med iOS 4.
